Rory Marraccini, MD, Vice Chair of Psychiatry, LVHN. Co-director of P4P mentor-based well-being program

Rory Marraccini, MD, Vice Chair of Psychiatry at Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN), has been named co-director, along with Carolyn Lamparella, EdS, LPC, Program Director of Preferred EAP, of the P4P program. This program is offered to Valley Preferred and LVHN clinicians as a component of the organization’s well-being services led by Chief Wellness Officer, Valley Preferred is preferred provider organization aligned with LVHN.

P4P is a peer-support program that assists physicians, residents, APCs, pharmacists, and medical students who are experiencing stresses, especially those brought on by their professional roles. It is believed that colleagues who have “been there” can best relate to situations and concerns encountered in the workplace by their peers. The volunteer mentors are trained by Dr. Marraccini and Lamparella to provide emotional first aid and connect colleagues with supportive resources.

Dr. Marraccini was chosen to co-lead after retirement of his predecessor, Carmine Pellosie, MD, who was also Executive Director of LVHN’s Occupational Health division. Dr. Marraccini’s long-held interest in the well-being of his colleagues came to the attention of LVHN leaders, who nominated him for the role. He says he wants to build on what Dr. Pellosie and Lamparella have done, revitalizing the P4P program by improving awareness, access, and possibly mentor numbers.

“Our goal is a strong network of colleagues trained to listen without judgement, and validate a provider’s feelings,” says Dr. Marraccini. “They can provide a relatable perspective when their colleagues are faced with difficult scenarios in their professional or personal life. While this is an extension of the services Preferred EAP provides, it goes further by offering an intimate understanding of what health care providers go through.”

Dr. Marraccini received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA. He interned at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Memorial Sloan-Kettering, New York, NY, and completed his residency in psychiatry at Weill-Cornell Medical College, The Payne Whitney Clinic, New York, NY. He is a member of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Morsani College of Medicine, University of South Florida.

Dr. Marraccini began working as a Consultation/Liaison Psychiatrist at Lehigh Valley Health Network in 2004.
