Former Green Beret Greg Stube to Speak at 2019 Valley Preferred Spirit of Courage

What is it like to be a Special Forces operative stationed in hostile fire zones in the middle of a war? We’ll find out from Gregory A. Stube, who served as part of an elite team of Green Berets during the war in Afghanistan. He endured 17 surgeries and an 18-month hospital stay after being severely wounded and burned when his unit was attacked by Taliban fighters in the Battle of Sperwan Ghar. In support of the Burn Prevention Network and the LVHN Regional Burn Center, Stube will speak at this year’s Valley Preferred Spirit of Courage award celebration on October 1, 2019, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem.

The annual Spirit of Courage awards event is produced by the local Burn Prevention Network and sponsored by Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) and Valley Preferred, the preferred provider organization affiliated with LVHN. The event, which honors those who have risked their lives to try to save others from burn injury or death – as well as a burn survivor who has gone on to help others in the burn community – attracts nearly 1,000 firefighters, EMTs, police officers, and business people from the Lehigh Valley and across the state of Pennsylvania. Proceeds from the event support Burn Prevention Network’s Camp Susquehanna, other burn survivor support programs, and LVHN’s Regional Burn Center.

The sponsors are proud to welcome Stube to this year’s Spirit of Courage in a salute to the military heroes in the Lehigh Valley and across the country who have dedicated so much to the service of their country. Stube, whose capabilities span areas such as enemy resistance, parachuting, and underwater medical operations, will share his story of courage and resilience. His challenging victory over adversity provides an opportunity to learn firsthand about human strength, endurance, and survival.

Since retiring in 2011, after 23 years in the military, Stube hosted a TV show on NBC Sports (“Coming Home with Greg Stube”), and wrote a book titled, “Conquer Anything.” Stube continues his service as a consultant with the FBI, the FBI National Academy, and other organizations.

A book signing for “Conquer Anything” by Greg Stube will be held onsite October 1 at the Spirit of Courage from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and again immediately following the event.
