Mark Wendling, MD, Executive Director of Valley Preferred, has been a practicing family physician and geriatrician in the Lehigh Valley for over 23 years, and continues to practice at LVPG Family Medicine – Emmaus.
During his tenure with Lehigh Valley Health Network, he has been a member of the teaching faculty of the Department of Family Medicine. He helped launch a quality program in the Lehigh Valley Physician Group (LVPG) and served as Chair of LVPG Board of Governors for ten years. Serving as Medical Director of Valley Preferred for eight years, he has contributed significantly to the growth of the organization and has helped promote Valley Preferred’s evolving Achieving Clinical Excellence® (ACE) physician incentive program to its current nationally recognized status.
Additionally, Dr. Wendling has served as the Medical Director of the Lehigh Valley Health Network Accountable Care Organization (LVHN ACO) for over two years. In that capacity, he led the LVHN ACO to a successful first year of participation in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) ACO program, making the LVHN ACO the only successful ACO in the state of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Wendling’s medical and executive leadership in Valley Preferred has been, and continues to be, essential in guiding innovations and implementing quality and service improvement programs involving member physicians. He has successfully led collaborations with payers to develop innovative ways to measure and reward value in accountable care arrangements. He is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, and notably, was born at Lehigh Valley Hospital.
