Valley Preferred Spirit of Courage
A LOOK AT THE 2018 SPIRIT OF COURAGE AWARDS
October 2, 2018 was an amazing, emotional night, where firefighters, patrons, burn survivors, and their families gathered to honor those who have risked their own lives for the sake of saving another. Special guest speaker Natalia Ponce De Leon relayed her experience as an acid burn survivor, who consequently went on to change legislation in her native country Colombia toward stiffer penalties for acid attackers.
Valley Preferred, the Burn Prevention Network, and Lehigh Valley Health Network's Regional Burn Center launched the Valley Preferred Spirit of Courage Award Program in 2005. The idea is to honor people in eastern and northeastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey who have risked their lives to save others from a burn or death by fire. The program also recognizes individuals and groups who have done an outstanding job promoting fire safety or burn prevention education.
